Cheney Chamber of Commerce Minutes – December 2010

CHENEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

December 2010

Jeff Albers, Chamber President, called the Cheney Area Chamber of Commerce meeting to order on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:12 p.m. at D’Mario’s Pizza.  There were 19 members and 6 guests present.  Pastor Kaufmann gave the invocation.

Denise Eastman, Chamber Secretary, stated the minutes were emailed to Chamber members.  A few extra copies were available to review.  Marcia Kampling made the motion to approve the minutes and Stephanie Lies seconded the motion.

Marcia Kampling, Chamber Treasurer, handed out the Treasurer’s Report.  The Chamber Board decided to purchase a popcorn popper for $150.  It was used at the Come Home for Christmas.  The Chili Feed brought in $934.41.  Marcia has yet to receive all the bills for Come Home for Christmas so final numbers will be reported at next month’s meeting.  Scott Ayres did some wiring at the Farm Bureau building and the Chamber paid him.  Chamber dues for 2011 are coming and Marcia said the Chamber is still looking for projects.  J.R. Diskin made the motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Roger Brown seconded the motion.

Students from the High School were present to introduce themselves to Chamber members and tell why they were chosen for Student Spotlight of the Month.

Danielle Young gave an update on Make a Difference Day.  The event raised $5,240 and they have applied for an additional $500 grant from Thrivent.  They will give $2,000 to the Chamber to help pay for the ice machine at the Farm Bureau Building.  Any additional money will be used to finish up the playground project.  The city is applying for a grant that will help put rubber mulching in the playground area.

Come Home for Christmas went well.  Jeff talked to the Chamber about having high school students build a Christmas tree that can be used each year for a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.  The high school students who helped with this year’s event will be invited to next months meeting.

The 2011 Chamber Board was elected.  They are Jeff Albers, Roger Brown, Denise Eastman, Marcia Kampling, Stephanie Lies, Diane Panieko, and Danielle Young.

The city reported the playground equipment has been installed.  Children will be allowed to play as soon as the gravel is put down.

Pastor Kaufmann reported the Lutheran School is working on an event that will feature Gracia Burnham.

Jeff Albers, President, opened the meeting for new business.  The Cheney Emergency Fund said they are serving about 30-40 families in our community this year.  The donations have been marvelous.  There is also a coat drive going on.  If you have a coat to donate or know of anyone needing a coat, please contact Diane Paneiko at The Wish List.  Also, contact Roger Zerener if you know of anyone needing assistance.

The Chamber Board decided to revise the list of Chamber Committees.  A sign up sheet will be passed around at the January Meeting.  The committees will be Chamber Banquet, Fair Float, Chili Feed, Come Home for Christmas, Main Street, Website/Advertising and Membership.

Next meeting will be held on January 11, 2011 at noon at D’Mario’s Pizza.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:52 p.m.
