6th Annual SOCR Game Scheduled for Thursday

McPherson, Kan. – For the sixth straight year, the men’s and women’s soccer teams of McPherson College will participate in the Support Ongoing Cancer Research (SOCR) benefit game.  It will be held on Thursday, September 13 against cross-town rivals Central Christian College.  Women kickoff at 5 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m. (CT)

“Six years ago I started the SOCR Benefit Game in honor of a former player’s mom who past away from lung cancer,” said head women’s coach Rob Talley.  “It gives me great pleasure watching this benefit game grow into an annual event between us and Central Christian College.  Knowing that our two soccer programs are playing a game for something more important than a win or a loss, and helping others fight this horrible disease in the process is a great feeling.”

Donations will be taken at the entrance gate with all proceeds from Thursday’s games going to Women and Children Combating Cancer in McPherson County (WACCC). WACCC was found in 1995 with the purpose of serving women and children in the McPherson County area who are battling cancer by providing support for individuals in need.

Following their games on Thursday, both McPherson teams will travel to Baldwin City, Kan., to take on the Baker University Wildcats whose women are nationally ranked in the top-10.  Games are scheduled for September 19th at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (CT)
