CONSERVATISM in a Nutshell

Despite the political brand of conservatism, true conservatism is rooted in tradition.

It really is an idea.  Conservatism is the idea that “God made the world, didn’t make us into an ameba or a monkey, or some similar primitive thing that got better and better, and therefore what we want is human progress.  Instead, what we want is to be what God made us to be, preserving the traditions of society–though tainted by sin and sinful people who fail—at least we have failed in opposition to those moral standards, those truths of natural laws that cultures have all embodied in various traditions that slowly change over time.”

This was affirmed this week at the 66th Lutheran Church/Missouri Synod Convention. The quoted summation by Aaron Wolf

“I’m a conservative, but I’m not in a bad mood about it.”

Gov. Mike Pence
