Members of the public are invited to join Veterans and employees of the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center’s annual VA2K ‘Walk & Roll’ on May 17, 2017. The event begins at 11 a.m., and the event is free.

This two kilometer walk (1.24 miles) demonstrates the employees’ and Veterans’ commitment to a healthier life style “It isn’t the distance,” said Rick Ament, Director of the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, “but the commitment it takes towards a healthier lifestyle.” The route is mapped around the building, and employees and Veterans are encouraged to walk. Those using a wheel chair will be assisted during the event and have plenty of companionship as they head for the finishing line.

“This is not a race,” says Christina Monaghan, organizer of the VA2K. “It’s about companionship and commitment. We want our employees and Veterans to commit to living healthier, and to look strongly at when and how they exercise.” The VA2K is a national event happening around the country.
Participants are encouraged to bring a voluntary donation in the form of items, such as bus passes, paper towels, fast food gift cards, laundry baskets, shower curtains, toilet paper, new pillows, bath towels, brooms, dust pans, or laundry baskets. These donations will be collected and distributed to local Veterans. Donations are not required in order to participate.
