The Butler Community College Department of Public Safetyis pleased to announce the addition of its latest police officer, following his graduation from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, and completion of field training.
Officer Ashley previously worked as a Veterans Administration representative for Butler, following his nine-year Marine Corp career, which included three overseas combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he was seriously injured in the line of duty. He received multiple commendations during his military service, and was honorably discharged in 2009 as an E-5 Sergeant.
Casey is an assistant coach with Wheat State Cross Fit, located at 11808 West Kellogg Drive in Wichita, and is an advocate for physical fitness.
The graduation speaker for the June event was Topeka Police Chief James Brown, who spoke of the importance of integrity in the profession, as well as impressing upon the recruit class the importance of officer safety, following the deaths of three Topeka officers within the last two and a half years, all by hostile gunfire. Butler was represented by Chief J.T. Bryan, Sergeant James Welch, Officer Kellen Morris, Director of Residence Life Heather Rinkenbaugh, and several of Ashley’s family members.
