El Dorado: Butler Community College’s Business Education & Training Analysis (BETA) Division recently partnered with XLT Ovens, a Wichita Company, to meet the workforce demand for welders.

“This Wichita company is expanding their workforce and wanted to get their employees cross-trained in specific welding methods,” said Jon Cressler, BETA’s chief business development officer. “We created a train-the-trainer session for three of their employees so they could go back and pass that knowledge to dozens of current workers and new hires.”

The Fast Track Welding Program teaches people with little or no welding experience the basics in safety and in three different types of welding: MIG, TIG and stick welding. The program has a two-week and a three-week course.

“Over the last few years several individuals, with career goals in mind or just to learn a new hobby, have taken advantage of the fast track welding program,” said Cressler. “We know of one young man who was hired after performing a weld test at a job interview before he had finished the program.”

The Fast track Welding Program started in October 2013. The next session will begin June 29, and is open to anyone who would like to participate. For more information about the variety of training options through BETA, click this link.
