The owners of Bookends, 123 N. Main, plan to construct four apartments in the upper two floors of the red brick building originally built as hotel in 1888.  “There will be two apartments on each floor, with about 1,200 square feet of space in each,” Wes Barlett said.  Leiker and Sons Construction is general contractor on the project. The Bartletts initially took out a $375,000 building permit for the work. “We’re in the sheetrock stage right now,” Barlett said. The city issued a second permit this week, for $100,000, for a concrete tower on the back of the building for stairs and a small elevator, Bartlett said. “We think we will have the thing finished by October and should, hopefully, be ready for tenants to move in in November,” Bartlett said.
