Smooching Swine

This year at the Harvey County Fair, the Harvey County 4-H Ambassadors decided that a couple of pigs could use a smooch. The 4-H Ambassadors put on a fundraiser called “Kiss the Pig”, where they collected cash donations throughout the fair and the nominee with the most money pledged in their name got to pucker up.  The lucky nominees were Sherriff T. Walton, Officer Gary Littlejohn, the Harvey County Extension Agents and the 4-H Ambassadors.

The 4-H Ambassadors created this fundraiser as a way to help out a neighboring 4-H Agent in Reno County, Joan Krumme. Krumme has continued to battle cancer for the last two years. After going through a similar situation with our previous 4-H Agent, Ann Religa, the 4-H Ambassadors wanted to show their support.

“The fundraiser was originally for the ambassadors to have a fun way of raising money. Then we heard about Joan and we remembered what it was like with Ann. We thought it was the perfect way to show support. Through 4-H we learn to use our heart for greater loyalty this was the perfect example. We showed support when someone needed it”, says 4-H Ambassador, Ryan Littlejohn.

The nominees with the most donations in their name were Officer Gary Littlejohn and 4-H’er, Remington Greider-Little. Both winners kissed pigs during the Champion Foods and Livestock Auction on the last night of the fair.

The 4-H Ambassadors raised a total of $375 to donate to Krumme and her medical expenses.
