Newton: The second annual Spring into the Arts Festival brings 12 special art and music events to Harvey County on April 23-26. Festival events include:

* Art & Music in the Heart of Newton: 6-8 p.m. April 23, downtown. Enjoy art demonstrations, musical performances and special activities at downtown businesses during this annual event. Sponsored by the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce. Admission is free.

* “Creative Youth: Student Art Show”: 6-8 p.m. April 23, Carriage Factory Art Gallery, 128 E. Sixth St., Newton. An exhibit of artwork by homeschool students will open, and bluegrass musician David Schimming will perform. Admission is free.

* “The Wizard of Oz”: 7:30 p.m., April 23, Newton Fox Theatre, 518 N. Main St., Newton. The historic theater will bring this classic film back to the big screen for the festival’s opening night. Admission is $5. Tickets are available at the door.
* “The Dining Room”: 7:30 p.m. nightly, April 23-25, Krehbiel Auditorium at Bethel College, North Newton. The performing arts students at Bethel College will present their spring drama. Admission is $10. Tickets are available at the door.
* Apple Blossom Festival: 5-8 p.m. April 24 on the Newton Presbyterian Manor campus, 1200 E. Seventh St., Newton. Welcome spring during this annual activity that features music, performances and activities for all ages. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
* “Barn Quilt 101”: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 25, Carriage Factory Art Gallery, 128 E. Sixth St., Newton. If you’ve wished for one of the personalized, colorful barn quilt squares, here’s your chance to create one — no barn required! This one-day class will offer materials and instruction to create your own to take home. Cost is $50. Class size is limited. Register at 316-284-2749.
* Prairiestock Local Music Festival: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. April 25 at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains, 177 W. Hickory, Hesston. Enjoy local artists from genres including acoustic guitar, celtic, folk, indie rock, bluegrass and more. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, dine on tasty food vendor offerings and shop at the FloraKS Native Plant Sale. Admission is $5 for adults. Children 16 and younger get in free.
* “Fusion: Music & History”: 2-4 p.m. April 25 at the Warkentin House, 211 E. First St., Newton. Chamber musicians will preview the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra’s 20th anniversary Summer Music Concert with performances at the historic home. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Newton Convention & Visitors Bureau.
* Sunday Afternoon at the Museum: 2 p.m. April 26 at Kauffman Museum, North Newton. Enjoy Earth Day activities. Admission is free.
* Sounds of Spring: 4 p.m. April 26, Shalom Mennonite Church, 800 E. First St., Newton. The Newton Community Children’s Choir will perform. Admission is free, but a free will offering will be taken for the choir.
* Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus: 7 p.m. April 26, Memorial Hall at Bethel College, North Newton. Admission to the concert is free.
