The Pratt Community College track teams competed at the eight-team Hutchinson Invitational on Thursday. The men scored 32 points on the day while the short-handed women’s crew tallied 28. Both team totals far exceed any point totals by last year’s Beaver squad.

The women were led by sophomore thrower Rebecca Borger. She placed fifth in the shot put and fourth in the javelin. The rest of the women’s points were notched by the talented freshmen distance quartet of Breanna Phillips (6th in the 5000), Krystal Rivera (7th in the 800), Divina Flores (5th in the 1500), and Elisabeth Richins (4th in the 1500, 5th in the 800).

The men were led by Dennis Barfield, as he leaped to a third place finish in the long jump and surged to a sixth place finish in the 400. Andres Pelayo continued his journey to breaking the two-minute barrier in the 800, placing 4th with a time of 2:00.2. High school teammates Fred Vega and Steve Munguia showed off Pratt’s talent in the distance events, placing fourth and fifth in the 5000.

Both teams will compete at Wichita State on April 10 and 11.
