New freshmen who apply to Wichita State University for the 2017-18 academic year now have another financial aid option to consider.

High school seniors who have a permanent residence in Sedgwick County can receive consideration for the newly established need-based Sedgwick County Access Grant at Wichita State.

To be eligible, new freshmen must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a domestic, undergraduate, first-time student to WSU
  • Have a minimum unweighted 3.0 high school cumulative GPA
  • Have an ACT score of 21 or higher (SAT 980) or rank in top third of high school graduating class
  • Meet the Dec. 1 priority date for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Be a Pell-Grant eligible student to receive priority consideration
  • Award amounts range from $250 to $4,000 for students enrolled in the minimum 12 or more credit hours. Awards are renewable for up to four years or until graduation, whichever comes first.

The grant is considered last payee to cover unmet need up to tuition and can be combined with other scholarships and gift aid.

The Sedgwick County Access Grant is awarded on a first-applied, first-awarded basis until the funds are exhausted. Students must be fully admitted to Wichita State and have a completed FAFSA at Wichita State by Dec. 1.
