Purebred Beef Unit’s Legacy Sale will feature 29 yearling bulls and 37 registered females

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State University’s Department of Animal Sciences and Industry will host the Legacy Sale on Friday, March 2 at the Stanley Stout Center in Manhattan.

This year marks the 41st anniversary of the student-managed sale.

This year’s offering includes 14 Angus, eight Simmental/SimAngus and seven Hereford yearling bulls as well as 13 Angus, 14 Simmental/SimAngus and 10 Hereford registered females.

“For more than four decades, our commitment to our customers has been to provide cattle that are profitable in a variety of situations,” said Bob Weaber, the faculty advisor for the university’s purebred unit facility. “This year’s offering was designed with that commitment in mind. Utilizing the latest technology, we have sought to build cattle that perform in a wide range of management and environmental conditions. Look through the list of calving ease bulls for use on heifers in all three breeds. Find the bulls in the upper percentiles in carcass traits to hit premium targets, and the high growth bulls that produce more pay-weight at weaning.”

The sale catalog and lot videos are available online at www.asi.ksu.edu/legacysale.

The 105th annual Cattlemen’s Day will be held prior to this year’s sale. Gregg Doud, who has been nominated by President Donald Trump to be the Chief of Agricultural Negotiator and is currently the president of the Commodity Markets Council, will keynote the event by sharing his outlook on trade issues in the beef industry.

Following Doud’s presentation, K-State agricultural economist Glynn Tonsor will discuss the importance of international trade as the U.S. beef herd expands. The afternoon sessions will feature K-State faculty and industry presentations in Weber Hall and at the Purebred Beef Unit discussing a variety of topics.

The cost to attend Cattlemen’s Day 2017 is $20 if paid by March 2 at noon or $30 at the door. There is no charge for students. Online registration is available at www.asi.ksu.edu.
