The Rice County Historical Society/Coronado Quivira Museum will have its Annual Meeting at the Lyons State Bank Community Room on November 16 at 7 p.m.  The opening events will be a summary of the past twelve months and a brief business meeting.  Immediately following will be a presentation by artist/model-maker Bill Rutherford.

Rutherford will talk about his career which started in January 1965 and continues today.   This self-employed artist has a studio at his home in Wichita where he does commissioned sculptures of architecturally significant and historic buildings, residential and commercial, throughout the United States.

During the summer of 2015, Bill delivered a replica of a home in Sterling to the Coronado Quivira Museum.  The bronze replica was done for Ellen and Vince Canzoneri in 1977. When Ellen and Vince passed away the replica was put into storage.  In going through their parents possessions, the children found the replica and asked Rutherford to find a home for it.  He called the Coronado Quivira Museum and offered it as a gift which has been accepted into the collection.

Rutherford was on the Wichita Arts Council from January 1982 to August 1987.   While on the Council, he helped develop programs to bring the arts to the people.  One such program culminated in a year-long festival in 1986-87, celebrating the life, times, and music of George Gershwin.
