Wichita, Kan. – Ed O’Malley is officially launching his campaign for Governor today at seven events across Kansas.

“Over the last eight years, Kansas politics have been on a downward spiral that leaves us on par with dysfunctional D.C.,” said Ed O’Malley. “I know things are headed in the wrong direction. It’s for that reason that I am proud to announce my candidacy to be Governor of Kansas!”

Earlier this year, Ed O’Malley travelled around Kansas speaking to people, listening to their concerns and ideas. O’Malley held roundtable and town hall meetings across the state – from Ashland to Topeka, Goodland to Overland Park, Hill City to Kansas City, Parsons to Hays.

O’Malley continued: “I know there is a better way. It’s a way that leads to better jobs for us and our neighbors. A better way that leads to cities and towns thriving, rather than shrinking. A better way that leads to pride in our state and our children and grandchildren wanting to make Kansas their home.”

Career politicians – serving their political ambitions – have failed to solve the big issues facing our state. To move Kansas forward, we need a Governor who has both the political experience and who has built something of even broader impact and importance. Elected to three terms in the Kansas Legislature, Ed O’Malley started the Kansas Leadership Center with the idea to transform the way people lead in Kansas.

“My campaign will revolve around three big, bold ideas I will work day and night to deliver.” said O’Malley. “Number one, we will create the best public education system in the world to fuel our economy. Number two, we will transform government by creating the most innovative, efficient and creative workforce inside government to serve you. And number three, we’ll do all this with leadership that brings people together to solve problems.”

On Tuesday, October 10, Ed is announcing his run for Governor at A Cup on The Hill in Kansas City, Kansas at 7:30 a.m., the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel in Johnson County at 9 a.m., Triangle Park in Manhattan at 1 p.m. and Union Station in Wichita at 5:30 p.m. He’ll continue the announcement events on Thursday, October 12 in Downtown Beloit at 7:30 a.m., Dodge City Community College at 1 p.m. and the Clarion Inn in Garden City at 4 p.m.

About Ed O’Malley

In 2007, Ed O’Malley started the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC), an entrepreneurial nonprofit funded by the Kansas Health Foundation that trains leaders worldwide. As the founding president and chief executive officer, Ed built a place – literally and figuratively – that connects all Kansans. Ed has worked with thousands of leaders across the state to lead more effectively on the challenges facing them.

O’Malley was elected to three terms in the Kansas House of Representatives where he represented Roeland Park, Mission and northern Overland Park. In the Legislature, he garnered a reputation as a thoughtful and skilled legislator. He did something that most politicians didn’t do: he listened and worked to find solutions to problems. O’Malley was instrumental in the creation of the Kansas Economic Growth Act. He was also part of the group that crafted the bill that met the school funding requirements set forth by the Kansas Supreme Court in response to Montoy v. Kansas in 2005.

Ed O’Malley is a husband, father, friend, executive, author and innovator – but mostly he is a Kansan. He has spent most of his life in the Sunflower State and has dedicated his career to making Kansas stronger for its citizens, its families and its future. Ed learned the importance of community and service by his parents who raised him and his siblings in Johnson County, Kansas where he graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park. He earned his degree in history from Kansas State University, which soon turned into a passion for how to make a better tomorrow.
