What: Eclipse Party

 

When: Monday, Aug. 21, 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.

 

Where:  Exploration Place outdoor Entrance Plaza, 300 N. McLean Blvd., Wichita, Kan., 316-660-0600www.exploration.org

 

Admission: Free  (NOTE: if people want access our indoor exhibits or see a dome theater show, regular admission applies for both)

 

Details: Be part of this rare event – a total solar eclipse! In Wichita, the Earth will plunge into 90% darkness as the Moon travels between it and the Sun. In the Festival Plaza safely view the solar eclipse using special glasses (provided to the first 1,000 guests) or solar telescopes.

 

Plus enjoy fun activities! Find out exactly how and why solar and lunar eclipses occur, investigate the effects of gravity in the universe as you use orbiting objects, get the up-to-date number of exoplanets scientists have discovered, and take a look at some spectacular images from SOHO – NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory.

 

Please note: you can come and go at any time during this event!

 

Food trucks on site 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Limited seating available for lunch. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

Timing of seeing the eclipse in Wichita:

  • 11:26 a.m. – begins
  • 1:04 p.m. – maximum darkness
  • 2:32 p.m. – ends

 

Remember: always use proper eye protection when looking at partial phases of a solar eclipse.
