WICHITA, Kan. – Heartspring’s 10th-Annual Autism CARE Walk will take place on April 29 at the Wichita Water Walk. The festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. It is free for participants to walk and show their support. Thousands of walkers have already registered and raised more than $88,000!

“Thanks to our amazing registrants, supporters and sponsors, Autism CARE Walk 2017 is already a success,” Special Events Coordinator Hannah Hrencher said. “But, we aren’t done yet. We still have a few days to go so we want to continue growing and raising more funds for Heartspring’s Autism Services program.”

Proceeds from the walk benefit Heartspring’s Autism Services program. The program provides services and resources for individuals and families affected by a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. A diagnosis can create major changes for a family or individual. Autism behavioral services and therapies can cost up to $136,000 a year. The CDC estimates one in 68 children is impacted by autism meaning there are more than 2,000 children living in Sedgwick County impacted by autism.

“Team CARE is truly changing the lives of local children with special needs,” Hrencher said. “Every step our walkers take helps a child make a friend, learn a social skill or build confidence.”

In addition to the main event, the CARE Walk will also have autism-friendly activities, vendor booth and food trucks. For more information or to register go to www.autismcarewalk.org.
