The Great Plains Theatre was deemed a total loss following a fire that occurred the evening of Wednesday July 23, 2014 in Abilene, Kan.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
Due to the loss of office space, the staff has moved into a temporary office location at 311 NW 3rd Street, Abilene and will continue to operate at its normal business hours, Monday – Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Following a meeting of the staff and board members, the Great Plains Theatre has decided to continue its 20th season as scheduled and will be working toward rebuilding in the future.
The third show of the season, Always…Patsy Cline, will open Aug. 8, 2014 as scheduled and will run through Aug. 17, 2014 at the Abilene High School auditorium.
To celebrate the seniors heading off to college, the youth improvisational comedy troupe, The Best Medicine, will hold their final show of the season at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. There is a suggested five dollar donation per ticket.
