Personal bests highlight Barton women track and field final tune-up for Region VI Championships

The Barton Community College women’s track and field team sent seven women to Emporia, Kansas, this past Wednesday competing in the Emporia State University Midweek Open.

Sophomore thrower Nicole Kruse began the meet for the Lady Cougars with a toss of 34.06m in the Hammer Throw, for tenth place overall.  Also in the field events sophomore Bethany Bowman cleared 1.46m in the high jump placing 10th.

In the distances Yazmin Rendon made her opening debut in the 3000m Steeplechase placing fifth in 16:02.21.  The freshman duo of Kaitlynn Tuey and Holly Pierce set personal bests in the 1500m placing 13th and 14th respectively coming in at 5:20.97 and 5:22.41.  Julee McAtee also ran a career best time of 2:37.49 in the 800m placing 14th overall.

Danashka Lawrence was the lone sprinter representing the Lady Cougars on Wednesday competing in both the 100m and 200m.  Lawrence began the day with a ninth place finish in the 100m at 12.73, just one tenth of a second off her career best.  She concluded the ladies competition in the 200m with a tenth place finish in 26.52 seconds.

The Lady Cougars return in force May 1-2 as Barton travels to El Dorado, Kansas, for the Region VI Championships.
