October can offer ideal weather for just about any outdoor activity, but especially horseback riding. That’s why staff at Eisenhower State Park invite equestrian enthusiasts from around the state to participate in a special benefit trail ride on Oct. 10-11. In an effort to raise money for the park’s West Point Equestrian Camp, pre-registration costs (prior to Oct. 2) will be $30 for ages 13 and older, and $15 for riders 12 and younger. After Oct. 2, costs for riders ages 13 and older will increase to $40.
The schedule of events for the two-day ride are as follows:
Saturday, Oct. 10
12:30 p.m.: Participants will gather and ride east of Eisenhower State Park
4-4:30 p.m.: Riders will return to camp. (An option for a shorter ride will be available.)
6 p.m.: Dinner, courtesy of the Friends of Eisenhower State Park, will be served at a nearby shelter house. Door prize drawings and auction to follow.
Sunday, Oct. 11
7-8 a.m.: Hot breakfast, courtesy of the Friends of Eisenhower State Park.
9 a.m.: Participants will gather and ride Eisenhower State Park’s Blue Trail.
12 p.m.: Riders will return to camp.
Participants interested in reserving West Point camp sites, complete with hookups (one pipe corral per site), may do so by calling park staff at (785) 528-4102.
Primitive camping, without a reservation, will also be available at West Point. For a daily fee of $5, 12×12 pens may be reserved.
