Schmidt elected vice president of the National Association of Attorneys General

TOPEKA – (June 19, 2015) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has been elected vice president of the National Association of Attorneys General.

Schmidt was elected to the post yesterday at the summer meeting for the national, nonpartisan professional organization that includes all 56 state and territorial attorneys general. He was nominated by the attorneys general representing states in the Midwestern region that includes Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Schmidt’s previous leadership roles for the organization have included Midwestern region chair, anti-human trafficking committee vice chair and consumer protection committee co-chair.

As vice president, Schmidt will serve on the executive committee for the national organization and will help guide its decision making. In recent years, initiatives of the National Association of Attorneys General have included combating human trafficking, protecting consumer privacy and promoting child safety. The organization also provides extensive professional education and training opportunities to state attorneys general staff throughout the country.
