The Barton Community College baseball team’s weekend trip to Oklahoma showed Head Coach Brent Biggs the good side of his team yet revealed the shortcomings as the Cougars were swept in a three-game series at Rose State College.

Barton’s rally fell short in Saturday’s series opener as the Cougars showed an ability to claw back from behind eventually falling 7-6.  On Sunday Barton outhit the Raiders in the opener and aside from a rough first inning, pitched well enough to win combining for a three-hitter but defensive lapses landed the Cougars on the short side of a 4-1 score.  Trying to salvage the final game of the series, a near repeat of a bad first inning would doom the Cougars as another valiant comeback fell short 5-3.

Dropping to 2-5 on the season, Barton will get its first opportunity to protect its home diamond as the Cougars welcome the Cougars of Western Nebraska Community College for a four-game series.  The teams will play a seven and nine game series at Lawson-Biggs Field on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a noon Sunday first pitch in a twin seven inning series.

Drake Bliss and Dayton Pomeroy led the offensive attack batting .556 and .364 respectively on the weekend as the other Cougars struggled collectively with a .215 average.   Bliss set the table at the top of the lineup going 5-for-9 with a triple and two RBI while Pomeroy’s 4-of-11 produced his first homerun of the season driving in two runs.
