Baseball Eliminated From Opening Round With Loss To LSU-Shreveport

SHAWNEE, OKLA. – The Warriors faced off with the LSU-Shreveport Pilots for their first elimination game of the Opening Round Tournament on Thursday evening. Sterling’s found late game magic with a four run inning in the top of the seventh, cutting the Pilots’ lead to two, but the LSU-Shreveport found ways to hold off the Warriors offense to knock Sterling out of the tournament with a 12-9 loss.

Sterling started off on the right foot with four runs through the first two innings of the ball game. The early lead slipped away in the bottom half of the fourth when LSU-Shreveport scored five runs on six hits and an error to take their first lead of the game, 5-4.

The Pilots continued to add on runs an inning later, scoring four more runs to jump out to a 9-4 lead. In the top of the sixth, Sterling was able to get their offense in the right direction when Jordy Hart (SR/Cedar Valley, UT) blasted a solo home run to left field. The scoring carried over into the next inning for Sterling when Clay Eagleton (JR/Chico, CA) launched a three-run home run during a four run inning to cut the deficit to an 11-9 ballgame.

The Warriors continued to put runners on base the remaining two innings but the Pilots found their ways to get outs to go on to defeat the Warriors 12-9 and knock Sterling out of the tournament.

Sterling finishes the season with a 47-15 record.
