(macbulldogs.com) — McPherson College Director of Athletics Andrew Ehling has announced that McPherson native Dustin Wheeler has been named head coach for the college’s men’s and women’s tennis programs.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to return home and be apart of the Bulldog family!” Wheeler said.

Wheeler, who started at MC on August 8, makes his first foray into collegiate coaching after a number of years working in fitness clubs in Central Kansas. He has spent the last four years as tennis director at Club 1 Fitness in Great Bend.

Prior to that, Wheeler spent a year as director of tennis for the 10-and-under age group at Jayhawk Tennis Center and nearly six years affiliated with Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita (tennis professional, 2006-2010) and Salina (tennis director, 2010-2011).

“I’m really excited about Dustin joining the family at McPherson College,” said Ehling. “He brings a unique wealth of knowledge and experience that will help McPherson College and continue the success of our men’s and women’s tennis programs.”

A 2003 graduate of McPherson High School, Wheeler also holds an associate’s degree from Salina Area Technical College.

Both Bulldog tennis squads open the season September 9-10 at the Wheat State Invitational.
