The McPherson College men’s basketball team played one of their better games of the year on Wednesday, as on the shoulders of five double-digit Bulldogs, they took down Kansas Wesleyan University 83-66 in the Sport Center.

The Bulldogs trailed for much of the first ten minutes of the game as both teams had issues putting points on the board; the score midway through the half was 12-10 in favor of MC.  Mac heated up in the closing minutes and took a 36-29 advantage into the locker room after Chris Crook dropped in a three-ball at the buzzer.  McPherson bucketed 12-of-31 in the opening period with 6-of-16 coming from behind the arc; they only hit 6-of-10 from the stripe.  KWU made 11-of-28 field goals with 2-of-10 three balls; they were 5-of-7 from the line.

MC rolled in the second half, starting on a run to jump ahead by double digits just a couple possessions in; the team pushed their lead to 20 just before the midway point of the period.  The lead peaked at 29 points for the ‘Dogs as they dropped bucket after bucket.  The Coyotes pulled their deficit back into the teens in the final minutes but never closer than 17 which is where it ended as McPherson won 83-66.  The Bulldogs made 17-of-32 field goals with 7-of-13 coming from deep; the team was a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line.  Kansas Wesleyan scored on 14-of-38 from the floor with 6-of-14 from three; they too were perfect from the charity stripe, making 3-of-3.

Mac shot in 29-of-63 for the game with 13-of-29 coming from long range; they were 12-of-16 from the free throw line.  The Bulldogs totaled 41 rebounds with 12 being offensive; the team also tabbed 15 assists, 12 turnovers, five blocks and four steals.  36 points were scored in the paint, 30 came from bench players and 17 were off of the 12 KWU turnovers.

Ramon Martinez led the quintet of double figure scorers with his game-high 17 points on 6-of-13 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws; the guard/forward hybrid grabbed nine boards, had two assists, two steals, and one block as well.  Crook made 4-of-9 from the floor and both his foul shots for 16 points; he had three boards, a pair of blocks, one steal, and one assist.  DeAndre Henson, making his home debut, scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting with both his free throws falling through; he pulled in six rebounds and had a couple assists as well.  Dee Roberts netted 5-of-11 from the field and 1-of-2 from the stripe for his 13 points.  The final double-digit scorer was Aaron Bachura who was 3-of-7 from deep and 1-of-2 from two-point range for 11 points.  Reed Rowell was just one bucket off from hitting 10 points as he went 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line for eight points; the junior transfer pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

McPherson will look to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to Friends University in Wichita, Kansas for their next contest; the JV game is set for 3:00 p.m. (CT) with the varsity men’s tilt slated for a 7:00 tip.
