Hutchinson Native Racette signs with Salina Liberty

Hutchinson native Derek Racette recently signed to play professional football with the Salina Liberty.  Derek is the son of Sean and Janet Racette. He has two sisters, Cami and Brooke, and went to Trinity Catholic High School.

While at Hutchinson Trinity, Racette excelled in most sports, but primarily in football, where he received the Catch It Kansas 2011 Football Player of the Year. Derek led the Celtics on both offense and defense in his senior year. The Celtics finished the season 10-2 with a loss in the third round of the playoffs to Beloit. Racette threw for 2,656 yards and 34 touchdowns this season. On the ground, Racette tallied 568 yards and nine touchdowns. He was also a defensive force with 60 tackles and seven interceptions in the secondary.

After his high school tenure, Derek took off to Friends University where he continued football, but also starred in track. Here’s just a sample of Racette’s track accomplishments:

3 time NAIA All-American (Javelin)
2015 NAIA National Champion (Javelin with a throw of 212’1)
2015 KCAC Champions of Character Award
Ran on Conference winning 4×1 team
Ran on the 4×1 Nationals team.
Helped win 3 conference championships
Won the 2011 State Track Team title (Placed 2nd in Javelin, 5th in the 4×1 relay)

With his college career over, Derek now teaches at Nickerson High School in Nickerson, KS as an assistant football and track coach. He also teaches Physical Education and Weight classes.

He will be joining the Salina Liberty at the Defensive Back and Wide Receiver position.
