Monday night was a night sure to be remembered by friends, fans, and families in attendance for “A Night to Remember”, a night of fun, fellowship, love and basketball.

Sterling offered a “Character in the Community” class during interterm that dedicated their class time to see what they could do and help out with in their community.

“The “Character in the Community” interterm class came about when several girls on the track team wanted to focus on the core values and find a way to use that in the community like they had in years past,” said Head Cross Country and Track Coach and Class Instructor Jack Dillard, “This interterm we focused a lot of our time and attention to the community of Sterling as well as Victory Village.”

The class had a firm belief that the NAIA Champions of Character Core Values are something that not only benefits the NAIA but sports in general and the communities involved with those teams. The class wanted to put something together that would reflect that for everyone involved.

“The Sterling College coaching staff and student athlete leaders took a service project trip to VV in the fall and really it started there. Some of the girls came to watch a volleyball game and I was able to interact with them for the first time. I wanted to do something for them that would show them love and support and the hope and victory we have in Christ,” explained Dillard.

The class helped raise funds, make signs, plan and implement the game, and made some great connections with the girls of VV. The final event of the day was a basketball game between VV and the Reno County Lady Sabres. From the beginning to the end, friends, families, and fans were on their feet jumping, waving signs, and cheering on Victory Village and Reno County with every shot, dribble, and pass.

“Last night was and will be one of the most memorable moments of my life. To see something as unique and meaningful for so many people to come to fruition is amazing. To see the college students, faculty and staff, community members and businesses rally together to support Victory Village was an incredibly special occasion. I will be forever thankful for the investment so many people made to pull this off. God showed up in an amazing way through so many different people coming together for this event,” added Dillard.
