Valley Center resident and High School tennis player honored by US Tennis Association

Valley Center High School tennis player Charles Taylor, was honored by the US Tennis Association foundation for his essay that he wrote about the impact Althea Gibson had on tennis and how tennis has impacted his own life. Gibson was the first black athlete to cross the color line in international tennis and the first person of color to win a Grand Slam title. Charles was one of 10 other young tennis players for across the nation so ranged in age form 10-18 years old. The ten winners were chosen from more than 2,800 submitted entries.
