“BE AT WAR WITH YOUR VICES,

AT PEACE WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS,

AND LET EVERY NEW YEAR FIND YOU

A BETTER MAN.”

Ben Franklin

Well it is a new decade. How did you spend the last days of your decade? Did you find the real reason for the season, or did you argue with friends and family over things that do nothing to endear you to them?

The big fad at this time every year is resolutions. It seems to take the place of substance for those who talk constantly trying to fill the airwaves or papers. Of course they are all happy to tell you what you should be doing in the next year.

Pardon me but I will tend to things without being lead by someone who believes that I am not capable of rational thought. It always amazes me that when being told about what I should think the entire group of people talking use the same words and phrases. It would be refreshing to see or hear one original thought.

It would really surprise many as to what I really think about many things. It is just not polite to tell people always what they need to hear. As if I have not been blunt enough during the years of writing my opinions.

No I will not make a list of things that are doomed to failure so that I can check off a list for others to keep. I simply will do as I have done in the past. I will live each day as it comes. Because making plans always blows up. So I will do the best I can.

What I can tell you is that I am about to finish the verification of my bibliography for book three. Hope to get it sent to my editor before New Years. Then I will be looking for photographs. This is about the most tedious part. so many people and institutions have been great about letting me use their photographs. However the governmental institutions are pretty pricey about using theirs. (and I am not getting rich writing books)

Hope that I will see a whole bunch of you at my book signing at the Rural Messenger offices in Haven in January. Bring with you stories and photos about Kansas.
