CHRISTMAS EVE

Church was over and it was time to leave,

We headed to the family farm for our usual Christmas Eve.

With snow covering the ground, I didn’t know it would be different that night.

As the snowflakes fell from the evening sky, it seemed to be a little more bright.

Most families would have stayed in the house, all toasty and warm,

Instead of going back out into a raging snow storm.

We all walked to the barn and went inside, out of the strong north wind.

The sights, sound, and feeling of peace that you never would want to end.

We stood in a small circle, by one of the three horse stalls,

As we listened to the wind blowing against those sturdy, old barn walls.

There were a few horses, some cats, a dog and a cow that gave out a moo.

As Dennis, my brother-in-law read about Christ’s birth, in Luke, Chapter II.

Chills went down my back and I know it wasn’t from the cold.

The story seeming different, because of where we were and the way it was told.

When the reading was over, someone prayed. I don’t really remember who.

After the Amens, we stood there in silence, I do believe God was there too.

The feeling of love for one another was so strong that night.

It’s hard to explain and put on paper, try as I might.

I wish I had this feeling all year long, remembering that God’s love is true,

If everyone had that feeling it might be a better world to live in for me and you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
