Elite Western entertainment is on tap for Mound City, Kansas.

It’s time for the Linn County Fair Rodeo August 9-10, starting at 8 o’clock each evening, according to John Teagarden, longtime rodeo coordinator-promoter.

Jimmy Crowther, owner of New Frontier at Gypsum, returns to produce the 2019 rodeo.

Crowther started producing rodeos in 1978 while still competing in the bull riding event. About the same time, Crowther began his bucking bull breeding program with genetics from legendary rodeo producer Charlie Plummer, Sayre, Oklahoma.

Today, Crowther owns the “purest” Plummer genetics in the industry supplying undeniably the best bucking bulls in the sport of rodeo today.

Meanwhile, at the past few years’ Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeos, cowboys also won several go-rounds in the bareback and saddle bronc riding on New Frontier bucking horses.

Troy Goodridge, Ft Scott, returns to Mound City to call the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association action. Goodridge announces 40 to 45 rodeo performances each year throughout the Midwest. This will mark his tenth year at Mound City.

Allan Dessel, Paullina, Iowa, is to be featured as the rodeo clown and funnyman also working from the barrel during the bull riding.

Wade Kunz and Tyler Dahl will serve as bullfighters protecting bull riders when on the arena floor after their rides.

The Heartland Twisters are a cowgirl equestrian riding team that are a part of the Chanute Bit & Spur Saddle Club at Chanute.

They’ll also be providing entertainment for the rodeo crowd while allowing time for stock contractors to prepare for the next event.  Their three-minute American Tribute and speed precision performances create raves at every rodeo.

The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association honored the Linn County Fair Rodeo as the Small Rodeo of the Year in 2018.

Billed as “The World’s Largest Little County Fair,” the 149th Linn County Fair will also feature a Demolition Derby Double Header and an Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pull in a three-day motorsports weekend.

The 147th annual county fair, one of the five largest in Kansas, runs for eight days, August 2nd through the 10th. “We’re also the only Kansas fair with a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo and an Outlaw Truck Tractor Pull,” Teagarden said.

The Demolition Derby Double Header is Friday evening, Aug. 2, at 8 o’clock. There were74 cars participating in 2018, with a larger number anticipated this year. The traditional demolition derby is Saturday evening, Aug. 3, also at 8 o’clock.

The Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pull will be Sunday evening, Aug. 4, beginning at 7 o’clock.

A special music show is on tap for Thursday evening, Aug. 8, at 7:30, with the Rutlader Outpost Cowboy Church Band entertaining Friday evening, Aug. 9, at 6 o’clock.

The Linn County Idol Contest is scheduled Saturday, Aug 10, at 5 o’clock.
