Christmas 2020 proved to be a difficult one for many people. Between the health challenges and economic issues brought about by the COVID-19-19 crisis, it was a challenge for all families to find the energy and means to create a meaningful Christmas. Thanks to a generous donation made through the Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation, the season was made much brighter for a number of Hutchinson residents.

RSM US LLP (RSM) – the largest U.S. audit, tax and consulting firm focused on the middle market – and a firm that performs a number of valuable services for Hutchinson Regional Medical Center donated $10,000 through the Medical Foundation to be used immediately for needy families. Ryan Smith, a Health Care Consulting Director for RSM explains: “One of many reasons RSM values our relationship with Hutchinson Regional Health System is our alignment in helping others and giving back to the community.  It is such an important part of our culture and while we know that the need in this unprecedented time is enormous, we are happy to help in any way we can in the communities where our people live and work.”

The Medical Foundation arranged for half of the donation to go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hutchinson. They were able to supply gift cards for each of its members, and some help to a group of families who were facing special struggles this year. Margo Douglas, the Membership Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hutchinson said “Christmas is such an exciting time of year filled with joy and giving. Unfortunately, for many of our families this time of year is filled with worry and fear that they will not be able to make ends meet, especially during this time of covid-19.  Thanks to this generous donation we were able to bring a little joy to our kids and relieve some of the worry our families face.”

The remaining $5,000 was used to help with the Healthcare System’s Angel Tree program. Through the Angel Tree, employees who are having trouble providing Christmas for children or grandchildren who live with them can apply for anonymous assistance. Angels listing the child’s sizes, gender and wishes are placed on a tree at the hospital, and other employees take an angel to provide for. With the generous gift from RSM, the System was able to add a gift card to each group of gifts for each child. Director’s at the hospital also helped identify families who were struggling, and they were given gift cards. One of the recipients expressed their gratitude: “Without this generosity, there would have been no Christmas at our home.  We have been so blessed by my coworkers and by the Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation.  Thank you so very much!”

“The generosity of RSM is really remarkable,” noted Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation Board president Jim Gilliland. “Hundreds of children and families in Hutchinson had a better Christmas, thanks to their generosity. We were honored to be a part of it, and thank them for their support of our community.”

Through the support of donors, Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation (HRMF) funds projects and activities that improve medical care in Reno County. HRMF is a 501c3 and was created more than 40 years ago. The Medical Foundation has continuously worked to ensure a healthy future for Hutchinson Regional Medical Center (HRMC) and the community.
