Stage 9 is not wasting any time getting ready for its  100th Anniversary 2016 Season.  The theatre holds auditions for its first 2016 Season mainstage production, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged] by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield on December 5 and 6, 2015 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

An irreverent, fast-paced romp, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged] makes its triumphant return as one of the revivals in Stage 9’s 2016 Season. This high-octane comedy featuring Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories and Tragedies will leave audiences breathless and helpless with laughter.  The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged] parodies the plays of William Shakespeare with all of them being performed (in comically shortened or amalgamated form) by only three actors. Typically, the actors use their real names and play themselves rather than certain characters.

The fourth wall is nonexistent in the performance with the actors speaking directly to the audience during much of the play, and some scenes involve audience participation. The director and stage crew may also be directly involved in the performance and become characters themselves.  Improvisation plays an important role and it is normal for the actors to deviate from the script and have spontaneous conversations about the material with each other or the audience. It is also common for them to make references to pop culture or to talk about local people and places in the area where performance is done.

Auditions will be held on Saturday December 5 and Sunday December 6, 2015 at Stage 9 which is located at 9 South Main in downtown Hutchinson.  Auditions will be held both days from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Individuals auditioning for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged] should bring conflicts which would prevent them from attending rehearsals which typically occur four to five times a week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. or Sunday afternoons from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Actors will perform cold readings from the script and be asked to do a brief improvisation exercise.

If necessary, call backs will be held on Monday December 7, 2015 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.  A cast list will be posted no later than Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 12 noon with rehearsals commencing shortly after.

Other production team members include Kelly Gauthier (Stage Manager) and Steve Gauthier (resident Shakespeare expert).  Johnston also contributes Scenery and Sound Designs to the production.  The production is currently searching for production designers for Costumes, Lighting and Properties.  Interested persons should contact Charles Johnston at 646-628-4353 or [email protected].
