2020 Events Calendar

Now Through – Thursday, December 31stCandy Cane Cash! Shop local to check off your Christmas lists and get registered to win! Shop at participating stores November 1st through December 31st, 2020 and earn points to enter for the Candy Cane Cash. You could win a $1,000 OR $500 in Candy Cane Cash just for shopping locally! A McPherson Chamber of Commerce & McPherson Main Street Holiday Promotion.

Every Sunday, in November
Bingo at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main. The Early Bird Session starts at 2:30 p.m. Regular Games begin at 3:15 p.m.

Thursday, November 5th
Growth and Development Screening- 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in McPherson. Birth to age 5. Due to COVID-19, screening might be cancelled and/or change depending on state recommendations. Call the Early Childhood Office for an appointment, 620-241-9590. Snowball Drop- 5:30 p.m. at the McPherson Community Building, 122 E. Marlin. Catch a numbered “snowball” and let the shopping begin! Snowball Drop will be inside the Community Building, for kids and adults. Santa will do a special kiddie toss. Adult toss prizes include coupons, gift cards, and merchandise to encourage shopping locally. Part of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce and McPherson Main Street Holiday Promotion.

Friday, November 6th – Sunday, November 8th
Holiday Open House Weekend- Start checking those lists for who’s naughty or nice and get an early start on your Christmas shopping. Sample treats and see what’s new this year at citywide locations. Individual store hours. Part of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce and McPherson Main Street Holiday Promotion.

Saturday, November 7th
Cowboy Christmas Shopping Event- 9 a.m-3 p.m. at the McPherson County 4-H Building, 710 W. Woodside. Free admission! Jewelry, holiday items, home décor, western art, clothing, and more! Get a head start on your Christmas shopping list and shop ‘til you drop!

Wednesday, November 11th
Veteran’s Day Celebration- Free breakfast 8 a.m.-10 a.m. at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main, for veterans and guest sponsored by Kindred Hospice. Ceremony at the Park Department Building at 11 a.m. Keynote speaker is Bobby Cox. The McPherson Radio Station will broadcast the ceremony live.

Veteran’s Day Gathering- 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the McPherson Senior Center, 112 E. Euclid. Free coffee and dessert for veterans and their guest. Sponsored by Hospice & HomeCare of Reno/McPherson County. Questions call 620-665-2473.

Saturday, November 14th
Hospital Auxiliary ‘Ganza- 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the J.O. Sundstrom Conference Center, 102 N. Main in Lindsborg. An ideal opportunity to grab your favorite home-baked items and handcrafted gifts for those on your holiday list!

Holiday Kickoff- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Downtown Lindsborg. You can shop virtual or in person and get started on your holiday shopping! Go to the Visit Lindsborg or the Christmas in Lindsborg Facebook page for more details!

Cowboy Chili Cook-Off- 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas. Events include chili cook-off, a costume contest, saloon bar, an exhibit of classic & restored Ford Model T’s, and more! Registration forms for the Chili Cook-Off are available on the Museum website at www.mcphersonmuseum.com/events or at the Museum. Only 15 entries for Chili Cook-Off. Wednesday, November 18th
Buffalo Auction- 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 2565 Pueblo Road in Canton. Auction will start at 11 a.m. Call KDWPT for further information – 620-628-4592.

Thursday, November 19th
Girl’s Night Out- 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Earn TRIPLE Candy Cane Cash points as you shop tonight and make out your wish list. Citywide locations, refreshments, drawings, and more! Part of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce and McPherson Main Street Holiday Promotion.
Family Night- 5 p.m. at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main. Proceeds from Family Night will benefit the Optimist Club. Come get a hamburger, fries, drink, and dessert for the low price of $5!

Virtual Philanthropist of the Year Event- hosted by the McPherson County Community Foundation. More information regarding the event to follow.

Saturday, November 21st
Christmas Open House- in downtown Moundridge. Special retail shopping events, kids’ crafts, drawings for prizes. 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. bierocks will be for sale – ½ dozen or dozen at the United Methodist Church, 226 S. Christian Ave. Christmas Tree Lighting at 7 p.m. at the Historical Museum complex, 402 W. Cole, including a food drive to benefit the Moundridge Food Bank. Thursday, November 26th 25th Annual McPherson Community Thanksgiving Dinner- 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (or until meals run out) DRIVE THROUGH PICKUP ONLY! Drive thru staging route will begin at the Journey Church, 201 E. Euclid. To pick up meals enter the Journey Church parking lot off Elm Street. Meal drive thru route will proceed south on Ash Street from the Journey Church parking lot to the Community Building, where meals will be delivered to your vehicle. Limit of 5 meals without prior approval. Euclid, Marlin, and Ash Streets will be closed during this time to allow for meal distribution. For more information call 620-747-2760. American Legion Riders Annual Toy Run- Benefitting McPherson families in need. The parade will start at 1 p.m. at the Walmart parking lot, 205 S. Centennial. Chili feed and auction to follow at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main.
King Midas Dance- 8:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N.
Main. Come dance off all that Thanksgiving food to the music of King Midas at the Legion!

Monday, November 30th – Friday, December 4th
Free Gingerbread House Kit for Virtual Gingerbread House Contest! – at the McPherson Convention & Visitors Bureau, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. Open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. One gingerbread house kit per family. Limited quantities. Enter the Virtual Gingerbread House Contest. Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place. Call 620-241-3340 for more information.

Canton Holiday Style- 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the McPherson County Fairgrounds in Canton.
Lots of activities including the Christmas Wish Fair at the high school, sleigh rides, visits from Santa, amazing vendors indoor and outdoor, concessions and much more. Main Street Mini-Main- 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Downtown location TBD. A children’s shopping experience for Pre-K through 5th grade. Elves help kids shop. All items $10 and under. Free gift wrapping. Cookies, crafts, AND a visit from Santa! Volunteers always needed. Snowflake Parade- 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in Downtown Lindsborg. Don’t just come and watch! Plan to be part of the fun! All snowflakes, Christmas bells, snowmen, reindeer, tomtes, and ugly sweater-wearers are welcome! Parade line up at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Church, 320 N. Main. Winter Trail Ride- at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 2565 Pueblo Road in Canton. Bring your horse and ride the 2800-acre prairie. See bison, elk, and other wildlife. Ride starts promptly at 10 a.m., lunch break, then back out for the afternoon. Cost for full day & meal: $35 each, ½ day with meal: $25 each. Holiday Lights Trolley Tour- Tickets go on sale November 2nd. Trolley will board and drop off at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each night. Masks are REQUIRED to ride the trolley. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 620-241-8464 and will only be held for 24 hours. Only 12 tickets are available for each tour. Trolley will be cleaned and sanitized after each tour. Hosted by McPherson CVB.
