Plan an outdoors autumn adventure

A brand new season is upon us, bringing cool weather, fewer bugs, less crowded parks, and gorgeous fall color. Who could say no to that?

Here are four ways to fully enjoy all of the above, and stay busy having outdoor fun this fall:

1. The Great Park Pursuit: This fun, free program runs through Oct. 31 and encourages players to visit up to 20 official park sites across Nebraska, following clues and potentially winning prizes. Sign up and find your next outdoor haven this fall! Learn more.

2. The Nebraska Passport Program: Designed to help you discover Nebraska’s hidden gems, the Passport Program offers the chance to visit some great parks, including Niobrara State Park and Branched Oak State Recreation Area, through Oct. 31. You’ll collect stamps at each stop to turn in for prizes. See more.

3. Geocaching Adventure Lab: This non-traditional geocaching game is located in four Platte River Valley parks, where you’ll search for answers to various questions. The adventure can be done in a day, with a little time to play. Want to take your time? Make a weekend out of it by planning an overnight stay. Get more details.

4. America’s State Parks 2020 Photo Contest: No doubt about it, Nebraska’s state parks have some beautiful sights, from waterfalls to towering buttes and wooded bluffs. Make a visit, take a camera with you, and enter this photography contest.

And don’t forget… Saturday, September 12 is Free Fishing and Park Entry Day, when you can go fishing or visit a state park without needing to buy a permit!
