Treasure is a word that surely stirs the imagination of people of every age. The Stauth Memorial Museum will host “The Hunt for Treasure!” — a national touring exhibit from NRG! Exhibits that explores the intrigue and excitement of treasures and treasure hunting that will be on display from March 13, 2016 to May 29, 2016. The exhibit invites visitors to learn more about the history of treasure, shipwrecks, pirates and other treasure-seekers, and the tools and methods used in treasure-hunting, past and present.

“The Hunt for Treasure!” features four themes, which include sunken treasure, buried treasure, metal-detecting and the modern treasure hunt. Visit the virtual world of Oak Island thru hands-on activities and video presentations throughout the exhibit enable visitors to make souvenir rubbings of early coins, try out metal detectors, crack a safe, hoist a pirate flag and explore the contents of a geocache. In other words, it offers a fun-filled learning adventure for the entire family. Two videos feature the story of geocashing, the modern treasure hunt and underwater Remotely Controlled Vehicles (ROV).

Please call in advance to schedule groups of 5 or more. Tours/groups welcome by appointment, contact 620-846-2527 for information or to set up a tour. Museum hours: Tue -Sat 9-12 1-4:30, Sun 1:30-4:30. We are closed on Mondays and all major holidays. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted to help pay for this outstanding, once-in-a-lifetime exhibit!
