Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s deadlocked 4-4 decision in U.S. v Texas, the case challenging the president’s legal authority to unilaterally change U.S. immigration policy. Kansas is one of the 26 plaintiff states challenging the president’s authority:

“Today’s decision should effectively end President Obama’s ‘executive action’ that pushed for federal agencies to disregard immigration law. It is a victory for Kansas and the other states that are insisting federal agencies obey the law. The tie decision leaves in place the injunction ordered by the lower courts, which has blocked the federal executive action until the courts rule on its legality. We remain convinced that as a matter of constitutional law, any road to immigration reform must lead through Congress.”
