July 12 is date for program focusing on future of agriculture in SW Kansas

Tomorrow’s Ag Starts Today’ features speakers from industry, government and university

 

LIBERAL, Kan. – Across the country and in Kansas, agriculture is facing hard times. With agriculture in southwest Kansas a major part of the Kansas economy, K-State Research and Extension is teaming with  Seward County Community College and several banks and companies to sponsor “Tomorrow’s Ag Starts Today,”  a meeting and lunch in Ulysses, Kansas, Wednesday, July 12.

 

Designed to take a look at the current status of agriculture in the region, consider what’s possible to improve it, and discuss what might be possible 20 years out, the program will be in the Ulysses High School gymnasium with registration starting at 8 a.m.

 

Topics include:

  • Wheat Streak Mosaic
  • Wheat Futures and Basis
  • Past, Present and Future of SW Ks Ag
  • Less Water Use, But Good Crops
  • Future Crop and Livestock Enterprise Diversity
  • Farmer Panel Discussion

Registration by July 6 is $20 and $30 after that date. The fee may be paid on site the day of the program, but organizers request early registration for an accurate number for lunch. Lunch will feature foods produced in southwest Kansas. Register by contacting Norma at the K-State Southwest Research-Extension Center at 620-275-9164.
