andowners concerned with herbicide drift now have a new tool for controlling broadleaf weeds, even during cool periods. 2,4-D acid is part of the next generation of phenoxy herbicides.

Unlike the amine or ester formulations, 2,4-D acid contains no solvents resulting in practically no odor and minimal volatility. Volatility or “vapor drift” of an herbicide is an important concern for many county landowners. “Sensitive sites” such as organic farms, greenhouses, vegetable gardens and vineyards are highly susceptible to damage from herbicides, even at extremely low rates. 2,4-D acid ensures that landowners are using the least volatile phenoxy product available. Applied during optimal conditions, the acid formulation provides an added degree of due diligence for herbicide applicators.

The acid formulation has additional benefits from advanced herbicide technology. It mixes easily with other tank mix partners and features enhanced uptake, increased leaf wetting and spreading, reduced spray droplet bounce and evaporation, enhanced rainfastness and pH reduction with buffering agents to prevent hard water problems. The product is available for cost-share pricing when used for noxious weed control. Contact the Johnson County Noxious Weed Department at 913-715-8358, for more information.
