“IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL WHERE THE LAW STOPS

AND WHERE JUSTICE BEGINS.”

Arthur Baer

Kansas where the wild west is alive and well. I am not talking about rodeos or cowboys, I am talking about low down, varmints, skunks, and low down trashy humanity. Yes I am talking about cattle rustlers.

We have been hit by cattle thieves here in Barber County, Kansas! Mostly in the southwest corner of the county, someone has been loading up Angus cows, calves, and bulls. This is right next to the state line. I hope that the jerks took a cow in Oklahoma. That way the 28 livestock detectives that Oklahoma has, who are also sworn special deputies of the Texas Rangers, can be involved.

Our sheriffs office has met with and brought in a livestock investigator from the Kansas Attorney Generals office. They also are working with the Comanche County Sheriffs office. I hope that one of the ranchers is a member of the Southwest Cattleman’s Association. All of their livestock detectives are deputized Texas Rangers.

I am hoping for a big group of officers to take the trail and make things downright uncomfortable for the rats that are stealing from honest people who work for a living.

They tell us to keep an eye out for trucks and stock trailers. Kind of tough when nine out of ten people in this county own trucks and trailers. Well they have to tell us something.

Why are we surprised that there are outlaws in our area. You know the respect for others that is tanking in the big cities would eventually get to us.

It is too bad that the standard for cattle thieves is no longer a short rope and a tall tree.

We still have a lot of cottonwood trees around here.
