The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), a Northfield, Illinois based organization, has granted accreditation to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Laboratory.
The mission of CAP is to serve patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide. More than 7,700 healthcare agencies in more than 100 nations are accredited by CAP.
The certification of the HRMC Laboratory followed an on site inspection by CAP surveyors, a required procedure leading up to accreditation.
Dr. Rex Degner, MD and director of the HRMC laboratory, said he is very proud of the laboratory scientists and staff within the hospital.
“They are an extremely dedicated and engaged group and it is nice to see their hard work reflected in the outstanding results they received following the extensive laboratory inspection,” Degner said.
Wes Hoyt, Chief Operating Officer for Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, had high praise for the healthcare professionals who are employed within the laboratory.
“The laboratory team worked extremely hard for this recognition and the extraordinarily high score is a reflection of the excellence in care from the lab team,” Hoyt said. “They are arguably the best lab team I’ve worked with and this distinction comes as no surprise to me.”
“I trust them (the lab) to get the results right every time,” Hoyt continued. “Congratulations are in order to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Laboratory team for a well earned and deserved honor.”
According to a statement from the CAP, Federal officials recognize the CAP Laboratory Accreditation as being equal to or more stringent that the government’s own inspection program. The CAP inspectors inspected HRMC laboratory records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years along with staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs and overall management.
