 Vaccine Deployment

  • On December 18th 257 personnel from the Hutchinson Clinic, Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, Health-E-Quip and The Summit received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.  These were all team members considered in the top tier of exposure, and so were a priority in receiving the vaccine.
  • The joint shot clinic between Hutchinson Clinic and the Medical Center was a success and provided good insight into how to administer the vaccine to larger numbers of recipients.
  • The State of Kansas has reached out to the hospital through an online survey to gauge how many additional doses we need to finish the initial immunizations for our organization, as well as the other healthcare agencies in the community. We do not have any feedback from the survey at this point.
  • On 12/22/20, Hutch Regional received 850 additional doses of the Moderna vaccine, the second approved by the FDA, from the Reno County Health Department and PrairieStar.  We will be working with all community healthcare agencies to break down the allocation and immunize more staff in each agency.  Vaccination of frontline workers has begun. This vaccine has a 28-day period between initial and second dose.
  • The Moderna vaccine has a different threshold for storage and use which provides more flexibility in vaccinating. The Moderna vaccine comes in 10 dose vials versus the 5 dose vials by Pfizer. Once a vial is activated, it is critical to use the vial as soon as possible, as the time it is viable is only a few hours. The vaccine will be administered according to those who can be gathered to receive the vaccine, 5 or 10 people at a time. No doses will be wasted.
  • We do not yet have any other information about the timing for receiving vaccine allotments.  Information will be shared as it is received. We will continue to request and receive vaccine allotments until all healthcare personnel desiring the vaccine have received it.
