Junction City, Kan. – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) today announced the winners of the

CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grant program. The

program, which has been offered since 2008, awards grants to schools in CenturyLink’s local

service areas on behalf of teachers who have developed specific plans to innovatively implement

technology in their classrooms.

“We were excited to see the innovation and creativity in this year’s grant applications,” said Tim

White, CenturyLink vice president of operations for Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. “It’s encouraging

to see teachers’ enthusiasm for bringing new learning tools and techniques into their classrooms.

We are pleased to be able to help expose students to more educational technology in their daily

school lives.”

Across the country, more than 1,000 grant applications were received. In Kansas, more than a

dozen teachers applied, with two winning schools selected by a review committee comprised of

community members and a CenturyLink representative. The winning teachers’ schools received

grants to be used to purchase technology to benefit students in the classroom.

Osawatomie High School was awarded $4,946.89 to purchase a color printer to create graphic

designs for screen prints for t-shirts, CorelDraw software to design screen prints, and a vinyl cutter

to create window decals, signs, etc., that will be sold in the new school store run by students. The

application was submitted by Kinda Williams.

Royal Valley High School was awarded $5,000 to introduce coding, animation, and robotics to

students enrolled in computer classes through the use of Finch and Hummingbird Duo robots.

These robotic devices have been developed specifically to make introductory classes to computer

science engaging for students. Students will work in teams and complete lessons designed to

explore coding and robotics. The application was submitted by teacher Teri Griffiths.
