McPHERSON EXHIBITS                                                                              

 

McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. Museum hours: Monday-Friday: 1 p.m.-5 p.m. / Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Don’t miss the McPherson Globe Refiners exhibit documenting the first gold medal basketball team awarded in Olympic history and the Museum’s permanent “hands-on” model train exhibit. 620-241-8464.  

 

McPherson Public Library, 214 W. Marlin, 620-245-2570. Library hours: Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. / Friday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. / Saturday: 1 p.m.- 5 p.m. / Sunday: 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Currently on display in the Library’s gallery, through December 20th, is the work of Abilene artist Andrea Fuhrman. 

 

One Door North, The Gallery of The Clayworks, 107 N. Main. 620-504-6550 An entrepreneurial creation of Disability Supports of the Great Plains, offering individuals with disabilities the chance to explore their own unique creativity and artistic expression using different media – such as clay, painting, and drawing.

Canton Stars and Stripes Military Museum, 104 W. Allen, in Canton. Exhibits include memorabilia from all military branches. Open for all Military and Patriotic Holidays or by appointment620-628-4484 

 

Galva Historical Museum, 204 S. Main, in Galva. Documenting Galva’s history as well as surrounding country schools, displays of past businesses, and information regarding the Cherokee and Santa Fe Trail. Hours: 1st Sunday: 2 p.m.-4 p.m.; 2nd Saturday: 10 a.m.-noon; 3rd Thursday: 7 p.m.-9 p.m., or by appointment. 620-654-3343 

 

Inman Museum, 101 N. Main, in Inman.  Sunday 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m., or by appointment. 620-585-6756 or 620-585-6477. The museum has a life-size village square with six buildings constructed with 100-year-old materials, a restored train deport complete with a caboose, and a full early prairie homestead. www.inmanmuseum.com.

 

Kansas Motorcycle Museum, 120 N. Washington, in Marquette. Hours:  Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.785-546-2449 or www.ksmotorcyclemuseum.org. Three galleries that are home to over 100 vintage and rare motorcycles of various makes and models, motorcycle racing memorabilia, photos, clothing, trophies, and posters.

Birger Sandzén Art Gallery- 401 N. First St., in Lindsborg. 785-227-2220. The Cole House, 405 E. Cole St. in Moundridge. Tours are available by calling 620-345-2427. Be sure to also visit the Moundridge Depot Museum, which is also open by appointment only for tours.

Twelve organizations that serve persons in need will be featured at this year’s Alternative Christmas Gift Market. Thursday, November 25th

26th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner- 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the McPherson Community Building – 122 E. Marlin. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m. No reservations required. This free dinner is paid for through the generosity of area businesses and individuals and served by Community Volunteers. To volunteer to help call or text: 620-755-0752. Shop Small in Mac– Support our local stores as you shop for bargains citywide. Individual store hours.

 

American Legion Riders 33rd Annual Toy Run– The motorcycle parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Walmart parking lot (205 S. Centennial) and end up at the McPherson American Legion (401 N. Main).  Benefitting McPherson families in need. 

 

Benefit Concert for the Diane Fallis Family: An Evening with PARAMOUNT Live– 8 p.m.-10:30 p.m. at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main. All proceeds from the evening will go toward medical, travel costs, and living expenses that have accrued. Tickets can be purchased on the McPherson Opera House website at www.mcphersonoperahouse.org

 

After Thanksgiving Dance– 8:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main. Music by King Midas and the Muflers! $10 per person.

 

Sunday, November 28th

Deadline for Toy Drive for Foster Children– at Pipers Fine Foods, 102 S. Washington in Marquette. This event will support foster children ages 0-18 in central Kansas. Saturday, December 4th

Christmas at the Depot- at 102 N. Washington in Marquette. Meet Santa from 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Dance/Clog performance at 3:30 p.m. Chili and bake sale at the Senior Center at 4:30 p.m. Lighted Parade at 5:30 p.m. Activities at the Train Depot throughout. Main Street Mini-Main– 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the McPherson Community Building, 122 E. Marlin.  A children’s shopping experience for Pre-K through 5th grade. Elves help kids shop. All items $10 and under. Free gift wrapping. Cookies and more! Volunteers always needed. 

 

Public Tram Tour– 10 a.m. at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 2565 Pueblo Road, Canton. A 45-minute tour of the Kansas prairie. Reservations required three days prior to the event. McPherson Holiday Lights Trolley Tour– Hosted by McPherson CVB. Tickets go on sale November 1st. Trolley will board and drop off at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. each night. Masks are REQUIRED to ride the trolley. Cost per ticket is $5. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 620-241-3340 or visiting the McPherson CVB office at 1111 E. Kansas. 

 

Thursday, December 9th – Sunday, December 12th

Steel Magnolias– at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main. Presented by the McPherson Community Theatre. Performance times for December 9th-11th will be at 7:30 p.m. On December 12th the curtain will go up at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mcphersonoperahouse.org. Arts After School Fall Showcase– 7 p.m. at Journey@McPherson, 201 E. Euclid. Come check out what students in the Arts After School program have been up to this semester as they showcase their projects during the event.

Christmas Craft & Vendor Show- 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Inman Community Building, 406 E. Center in Inman. Tons of beautiful handmade crafts, clothing, and home décor items to choose from to complete your holiday gift shopping!

 

St. Lucia Swedish Pancake Feed– 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Covenant Church, 102 S. Washington in Lindsborg. Come out and support STEPMC at the pancake feed. Donations will be matched by local sponsors!

 

Cookies with Santa– 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. at Craft Coffee Parlor, 120 N. Main. Part of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce and McPherson Main Street Holiday Promotion.

 

Christmas Marketplace– 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the McPherson County 4-H Building, 710 W. Woodside. Entry is free. Over 25 vendors!

 

St. Lucia Festival– The festival begins at 10 a.m. in Downtown Lindsborg with live holiday music. You’ll also enjoy Swedish folk dancing and live Scandinavian music. The processional will go to Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main in Lindsborg, where the annual St. Lucia is honored with a crown of candles. Christmas on the Prairie Tour & Cookies– Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 2565 Pueblo Road, Canton. Includes a 45-minute prairie tour to view bison and elk starting at 10:00 a.m. Cookies, hot beverages, and story time by the tree upon return to the Tour Center. Reservations required. Old-Fashioned Christmas– 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum, 120 E. Mill Street in Lindsborg. Ring in the holiday season with the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned prairie Christmas. Enjoy a shepherd sharing the traditional Christmas story in the stable, a guided tour of the Smoky Valley Roller Mills, Santa Claus, kids crafts and cookie decorating. Follow the glowing lanterns from activity to activity in the historic buildings.

 

McPherson’s Christmas Parade of Lights 2021– 6:15 p.m. Downtown McPherson. A “Cruise Style” parade. Parade route will start at 800 E. First and end up at Lakeside Park.
