2017 Sunflower State Games Registration Deadline Approaching

TOPEKA, Kan. – The first deadline to register for the 2017 Sunflower State Games is Saturday, July 8th. Participants interested in the 5K/10K Cauldron Run, Badminton, Baseball, Bocce Ball, Cornhole, CrossFit, Disc Golf, Drone Racing, Handball, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Martial Arts, Miniature Golf, Mountain Biking, Powerlifting, Soccer, Slow-pitch Softball, Sporting Clays, Swimming, Table Tennis, Target Archery, Tennis, Track & Field, Trap & Skeet, Volleyball, and Wrestling must register by Saturday, July 8th. The deadline for all other sports is Saturday, July 15th. Registrations are accepted online at sunflowergames.com. Printable forms may also be accessed from the web site for mail-in entry.

 

The 28th Annual sports festival will open competition in Topeka on Friday, July 14th with the Youth Baseball tournament at the Bettis Family Sports Complex and will wrap up on Sunday, July 30th with the conclusion of the Adult Basketball tournament. Kansans of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in 47 different sports. New events in 2017 include Drone Racing and Cornhole. All athletes and volunteers are invited to attend the Cauldron Fest on Saturday, July 15th from 7:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Lake Shawnee – Reynolds Lodge. Festivities include the Annual Lighting of the Cauldron and the 5K/10K Road Race.

 

For the first time in the organization’s 28 year history, the Sunflower State Games will be hosting events at the Kansas Expocentre. On Saturday, July 15th, participants in Wrestling, Powerlifting, Martial Arts, Jiu Jitsu, and Judo will call the Expocentre home. Landon Arena and Expo Hall will be transformed into a multi-sport venue with all five competitions taking place simultaneously.

 

In 2016, the Sunflower State Games hosted 7,101 participants from 369 communities. Organizers are hoping to host over 7,000 athletes for the ninth consecutive year in 2017. The Sunflower State Games is a non-profit organization based in Topeka. The Games are held annually in July and its purpose is to promote physical fitness and an active lifestyle for all Kansans through participation in sports.
