National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

Asian Wellness Day in partnership with K-state Research & Extension has scheduled their 17th annual event for Saturday, October 7th.  This community health fair invites everyone to the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Hundreds of people annually attend to take advantage of free or low cost screenings.  Mammograms and breast exams are free screenings offered for women 40-64 yrs. old that do not have medical insurance.

“We created the event 17 years ago,” says founder Audrey Nguyen, Education Information Officer KS Dept. of Health & Environment | Early Detection Works.  “It has grown over the years to include numerous screenings and resources for the community.”

Students provide interpreters as well as entertainment for attendees.
