Barton men’s golf team fires sub-300 round finishing fifth in competitive KJCCC Championships; Srinoon wins title with Fox coming in fourth

The Barton Community College men’s golf team improved each round of the KJCCC Championship finishing fifth concluding the two-day thirty-six hole meet at Newton’s Sand Creek Station Golf Course.  Barton opened play Monday with a 308 followed by a 302 afternoon round to end the first day just seven strokes out of first place but fifth in the tight knit standings.   The Cougars started slow in the Tuesday’s final round but heated up to post the day’s third best round in firing a 298 for the first sub-300 in recent Cougar golf history.   Shooting a three round total of 908, Barton finished 44-over for the tournament as nine strokes separated the top five teams.   The Cougars will next compete in the Region VI and District III Championships April 26-28 at Lawrence’s Alvamar Golf Course.

Named first team All-Conference for being in the top five individuals in the final conference standings, sophomores Natchapol “Putter” Srinoon and Landon Fox and the emergence of freshman Blake Huxman led the final day charge.

Srinoon put together a string of birdies to fire a 5-under 67 to tie for the conference title with a 1-over 217with University of Kansas signee Zach Kirby of Dodge City Community College.  Fox, who started off the final round in second place and one shot out of the lead, had a rough start to the morning but finished strong with a 4-over 76 to finish the tournament in fourth place with a 4-over 220.

After consecutive 8-over rounds, Huxman made the most of his final round with a 2-over 74 to leap seven spots in the standings to 17th place with an 18-over 234.  Koby Beougher had an up and down tournament with rounds of 80 and 76 closing with a 9-over 81 to place 22nd at 21-over 237.  Andrew Iverson stayed consistent with low 80 rounds improving each day with a final 9-over 81 in wrapping up his tournament play 32-over in 33rd place at 248.  Bouncing back from an opening round 96, Christian Wetter made his tournament debut closing with an 87 and 89 to finish in 37th place with a 56-over 272.
