Laura Baker of KC, MO will be the Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum, 212 S. Main St., Lindsborg, Saturday, August 5 through Saturday August 12. While at the Red Barn, Laura Baker, working fulltime at an architecture firm in Kansas City, plans to devote her time painting and illustrating pies, whole and slices, from photographs of her own baked creations. Laura says, “Being creative comes in all sorts of venues for me. I conjured up an idea to combine all my creative talents into one project and have been working on it for several years now. I have always loved baking and pies are a big tradition in my family, passing down recipes for three generations. The combination of test-baking a pie, making a presentation of the pie on antique plates, taking photographs of the slices of pie and painting those images is a super, fun project for me. Not to mention eating pies all the time.” For the 2nd Friday Street Makers Artwalk, there will be a “pie” reception for Laura on the 11th of August. At 8:00 PM the Red Barn Studio, 212 S. Main St, Lindsborg, will serve homemade pie and ice cream on the patio. Anyone can bring a homemade pie in exchange for two pieces of pie with ice cream or pay $5 for a slice of pie and $2 for a scoop of homemade ice cream while the supply lasts. About her residency at the Red Barn, Laura says, “My working project is to create a pie cookbook, titled, ‘Pie as Art,’ using all my own recipes and a few borrowed from friends, and to illustrate all the pies from photos taken and write about each…For a busy, working (architect) mom of 3, the Red Barn Studio, surrounded by Lester Raymer’s amazing art is a welcome oasis.”
