Agriculture and oil and gas development are just some of the issues facing the landscape in the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR). This week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Institute for Journalism and Natural Resources are leading a group of journalists on a week-long tour of America’s Prairie Pothole Region. More than 50% of North America’s ducks depend on the PPR and it is referred to as America’s “duck factory” because it is the most productive area for nesting waterfowl on the continent.
