As the 105th Kansas State Fair approaches, Reno County EMS, an entity of Hutchinson Regional Medical Center (HRMC), finalizes plans for its’ part in the 10-day event.

Terry David, Chief of Reno County EMS, said two Paramedics on a special response vehicle will be assigned to the fairgrounds during the fair. The Hutchinson Fire Department will also have personnel present to assist with any medical emergency that may present itself.

“With more than 350,000 Kansans circulating throughout the 280-acre fairgrounds, the need for an emergency medical response team is a high priority,” David said.

Also, the Kansas Board of EMS will be manning a booth located on the north edge of the fairgrounds, near the farm machinery display to assist fairgoers with medical emergencies. A first-aid station located on the west end of the fair’s administration building will be manned by Reno County EMS personnel.

“Fairgoers that seek medical attention should contact the nearest Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper on the fairgrounds, report their location and Reno County EMS will respond in the quickest way possible or call 911,” David said.

During a recent fair, Reno County EMS was summoned to assist a woman with childbirth in the fair’s north parking lot and upon arrival was greeted by a mother holding her new born baby and both were doing well.

Ken Johnson, President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, said Reno County EMS works hand in hand with a number of local and state agencies including the Kansas Highway Patrol which has protected fairgoers for the past 70-Kansas State Fairs.

“If all goes well, we will enjoy ten days of uninterrupted nice weather, which will result in another record attendance for the Kansas State Fair,” Johnson said.
