State Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced today that the Tower Foundation has awarded a total of $65,000 in grants to two organizations to support mental health services in Kansas.

Association of Community Mental Health Centers of Kansas, Inc., was awarded $50,000 to fund the purchase of Care Management Technologies (CMT) ProAct software. CMT is a behavioral analytics company that works with behavioral healthcare organizations to allow data collection and analysis for delivery and reporting to payors, administrators, board members, and policy makers in order to improve quality of care and reduce costs. CMT uses data analytics, trend identification, predictive analyses, and care tracking to support and enrich provider health home functions that improve healthcare outcomes, reduce dependencies on such medicines as antipsychotics and opioids, improve adherence to critical health medications, and lessen the utilization of unnecessary intensive services. Community Mental Health Centers across the state will use data produced by the ProAct software to enhance health home services.

The Wichita State University Foundation was awarded $15,000 to provide support to the Wichita State University-Community Partners: Autism Interdisciplinary Diagnostic Team (AIDT). The AIDT is an ongoing, working, interagency project designed to evaluate and diagnose young children in South Central Kansas who present with complex developmental needs, including signs and symptoms of autism spectrum disorders and to promote inter-professional education among future healthcare and education professionals.

The Tower Mental Health Foundation of Kansas was created as a result of an agreement between the attorney general’s office and the Menninger Foundation in 2007. It offers support to organizations that provide mental health services in Kansas. The attorney general is the sole member of the Foundation, which is staffed by the office of the attorney general. The Foundation’s board of directors is comprised of nine Kansans with a keen interest in mental health issues. Dr. Walter Menninger serves as the Board’s president.
